Rockin' the World

ROCKIN’ THE WORLD

As we descend upon the Sunday that has been designated to celebrate mother’s, children everywhere are searching for the best gift for their mom’s. Flowers are picked, gifts are purchased, and projects, lovingly made at school are ready for the big day.

Social Media also provides its share of tributes to mother’s. Many of these will give accolades to all women, to those who may not have children, but care for kids in other ways that are “mothering.”

It is in that spirit that I share the following poem.

ree

"The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" as published in Loomis' Musical And Masonic Journal (1898)

The third paragraph speaks to the power and influence that a woman has as a mother. It is an affirmation of the role of women; one of strength, love, tenderness, and influence. It is confirmation that ALL women are mothers. It is a testimony that women need to be recognized as mothers, and mother’s need to be recognized as women; understanding that the two are interdependent,

What follows are several (but certainly not all) identities and roles that make women’s contributions unique and significant to the world. They are blended with the line that ends each of the poem’s stanza’s; a line that is filled with power and acknowledgement.

“For the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.”
